What is a personal loan
A personal loan is a form of credit typically used for purchasing a vehicle, financing a holiday, consolidating debt or renovating your home. You can borrow a specific amount of money and make regular repayments to the lender. By the end of your loan term your loan is fully repaid.
A personal loan is less flexible than a credit card and does not offer additional benefits such as warranties and purchase protection, rewards or travel benefits. However, the interest rate charged for a personal loan is usually considerable cheaper than that of a credit card.
Types of Personal Loans
The two main types of personal loans are secured personal loans and unsecured personal loans. A secured personal loan is a loan that is secured against an asset, usually being a car. This kind of loan has a slightly lower interest rate and you can usually borrow larger amounts. Unsecured personal loans are not secured against anything so the interest rates are usually much higher and the borrowing capacity is usually lower.
